Hello.
My name is Zak Kirk. I am an artist, and the creator of the art movement: Avatarism.
The merging of mythology and psychology.
We live in a universe that is a vast malange of unknown strangeness.
Contained within these pages are my attempts to capture in paintings and sculpture the way I percieve these unexplainable pheonominon.
A good analogy of my method is this:
Imagine a sphere (or any other three dimensional object)
This sphere represents the multiverse, containing all that everyday nonsense, those things that go bump in the night, and everything
in-between.
Now imagine a two dimensional person (that would be you and me).
This little guy only knows the directions of up or down, left and right.
The concept of a sphere is totally outside his comprehension.
The idea of a circle that possesed more than two sides would seem nonsensical.
However, what if we were to put the sphere into a deli slicer, turn it completely into two dimensional slices and show this to our little friend.
Then explained to him that a sphere (previously outside his grasp) is all those sliced disks assembled together.
The idea would still be foreign, but it would bring it within his comprehension.
In my art I am trying to make those deli slices of the unknown that surrounds us every day, and present them to you, the viewer.
Hoping that someday we'll all be able to see that sphere for all it's roundness.
So please, wander the site, enjoy the paintings and philosopies contained within.
Hopefully I have accomplished a bit of what I set out to do.
And don't forget, I'm showing my works, new and old, about once a month, so check the happenings page frequently for places, dates, and times, in addition to anything else interesting I'm up to.
