I am a struggling artist, but then again, who isn't. I divide the majority of my time between creating Art and persuing my masters in Mathematics.
I believe that the link between the sciences and art is grossly overlooked.
But as this is my Artist's biography I'll try to stick to art..
I have always had an appreciation for art and general creativity, traits my mother encouraged.
I remember growing up we always had crayons, markers, construction paper, glue, glitter, and any other messy craft items at our fingertips.
I do believe that my mother's steady encouragement helped myself, and my brother, Matt Kirk develoup into the artists we are today. Thanks mom.
As a result, the majority of my painting education is self taught. In fact, at the collegiate level, I have only taken one painting class and stone sculpture. I have learned primarily through books, experimentation, and the support from my fellow artists. Proving that you really don't need
some piece of paper telling you that you're an artist.
Science fiction, mythology, cubism, and surrealism are my primary artistic influences. And I am continuously expanding the range of mediums I work in.
I've been told that the majority of my work is quite humorous in it's subject matter. It's like DEVO, either you get it/like it or you don't. Art, like anything else, should never be taken too seriously.
I am also currently developing my own artistic movement, AVATARISM. Avatarism is the bridge between Surrealism and Pararealism.
The marriage of the dream world and the supernatural world. Through my art I try to express the way I see the world of reality overlapping with the worlds of the subconscious, and the netherworld. I go more in depth about this on the the front page.
What more is there to say?
I really enjoy a good single malt scotch, and I play the bagpipes and digereedoo.
I practice Tai Chi in my spare time.
And I have an extensive bow-tie collection.
